Two terrorists killed at LoC in Poonch, two soldiers martyred
Jammu: Two Indian Army soldiers were martyred by a Pakistani BAT team on Thursday on the LoC in Chakan da Bagh sector in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir but in the fierce cross-firing two terrorists were also killed by the army in the sector during a foiled infiltration bid.
According to an official, as and when a Pakistan’s Border Action Teams (BAT) that comprises heavily armed terrorists are pushed into Indian soil, the Pakistani army provides cover fire to facilitate infiltration.
An “area domination patrol” of the Army was underway in the Krishna Ghati sector along the LoC when it was attacked by the armed intruders around 600 meters inside Indian territory at around 2 pm, said the official.
He said that on Thursday as well a similar situation was witnessed at the LoC when the Indian and Pakistani troops traded heavy gunfire after the Pakistan Army indulged in heavy shelling and firing on Indian positions in Chakan da Bagh sector.
The martyred soldiers were identified as Naik Jadhav Sandip Sarjerao, 35, of Aurangabad, and Sepoy Mane Savan Balku, 25, of Kolhapur, a defence spokesperson said in Mumbai late on Thursday.
He said that the body of one armed intruder remained lying in the open, while the BAT managed to drag back the body of the other under covering fire.
He said that the cross-border exchange of heavy firing is still underway in the sector.
