12 Maoists killed in Telangana gunfight, huge quantity of arms recovered

Hyderabad: At least 12 Maoists were killed in a gunfight with police in Telangana’s Jayashankar Bhupalapally district on Friday, police said.

Large cache of arms and ammunition has been recovered from the encounter site

Hari Bhushan, a top Telangana State Committee leader, was among those killed. Bhushan was known for his military tactics.

The encounter took place in Andhra and Chhattisgarh borders while Greyhounds were conducting combing operations on specific information.

Police are yet to identify the bodies of the alleged extremists killed in the gun battle which took place around 6.30 am.

A police constable of elite anti-Maoist force Greyhounds was killed and three others were also injured.

Some top leaders of the Communist Party of India (Maoist) were suspected to be among the slain Maoists.

The incident occurred when police including Greyhounds personnel launched combing operations in the forests following tip-off about the presence of Maoists.

Large cache of arms and ammunition has been recovered from the encounter site.

Meanwhile, senior police officials rushed to the encounter scene.
