Avalanche hits army post in J&K’s Ladakh region, 3 soldiers missing
Jammu: Two out of the five army soldiers buried under an avalanche in Ladakh region of Jammu and Kashmir were rescued on Thursday while three were still missing.
According to an official of the Udhampur headquartered northern command: “Unprecedented snowfall triggers multiple avalanches, a post in Batalik sector buried, two out of five rescued, rescue operation in progress”.
There were five soldiers at the post when multiple avalanches hit the area.
With incessant rain and untimely snowfall in the plains on Thursday leading to a flood-like situation in the Kashmir valley, Army once again came to the rescue of people affected in the low-lying areas inundated in the valley.
It may be recalled that on January 26, this year, at least 10 soldiers were killed and several colleagues are missing after avalanches hit an army camp and a patrol in north Kashmir’s Bandipora area.
