Hijack alert at Mumbai, Chennai and Hyderabad airports, security enhanced
Mumbai: Amid specific tip off about aircraft hijack, security agencies have enhanced security at Mumbai, Chennai and Hyderabad airport.
According to a senior official, the security agencies received reports about possible aircraft hijack by a group of people at the three aforementioned airports simultaneously on Sunday.
He said that following the threat input, Airport Security Coordination Committee held a meeting on Saturday to assess the situation and initiate preventive measures.
Sources said, “an email was sent by a woman who overheard 6 boys discussing a plan to simultaneously carry out hijacks from Mumbai, Chennai and Hyderabad airports.”
“A total of 23 people will be involved in the 3 hijacks which has been planned for Sunday,” sources added.
Confirming the development, Director-General CISF, OP Singh said that the security agencies in these three airports have been put on high alert. “A number of security measures have been put in place. We have increased and strengthened the patrolling, access control. The number of security personnel deployed has been increased,” said Singh.
