Iranian Passenger aircraft crashes killing 66 onboard

Tehran: An Iranian passenger aircarft carrying 66 people including the crew and the passengers crashed in a mountainous area of Iran on Sunday.

The plane, believed to be an ATR 72-500, was operated by Aseman Airlines

The plane came down in the Zagros mountains near the city of Semirom in Isfahan province while flying between Tehran and the south-western city of Yasuj, reports the BBC.

The crash occurred 20 minutes after the aircraft took off, said soures

“All emergency forces are on alert,” an emergency services spokesman said.

The plane, believed to be an ATR 72-500, was operated by Aseman Airlines.

According to local media reports, the people on board were 60 passengers, two security guards, two flight attendants, the pilot and co-pilot.

However, there was no official confirmation on the number of casualties.
