Pakistan again violates ceasefire in Poonch, one jawan martyred

Jammu: In the second ceasefire violation by Pakistan in a day on Saturday, a soldier was martyred in Krishna Ghati sector of Poonch district.

After Indian positions retaliated effectively, firing exchanges stopped in Mendhar sector

According to Defence spokesman Lt Col Manish Mehta, after the death of a woman in Pak firing in Mendhar sector, an army JCO were martyred in Krishna Ghati sector.

He said that the first ceasefire violation by Pakistan army was in the Mendhar sector at 5,30 am wherein it resorted to unprovoked, indiscriminate firing.

“After Indian positions retaliated effectively, firing exchanges stopped in Mendhar sector at 6.45 am.

He further said, “Pakistan Army again initiated unprovoked firing on Indian Army posts in Krishna Ghati sector at around 5 pm. Indian Army retaliated strongly and effectively,” he said, adding that in the exchange of fire, Naib Subedar Jagram Singh Tomar was grievously injured and succumbed to his injuries.

Tomar, 42 years, belonged to village Tarsana in Madhya Pradesh’s Morena district and is survived by his wife and a son and daughter.

“The martyred junior commissioned officer (JCO) was a brave and sincere soldier. The nation will always remain indebted to him for the supreme sacrifice and devotion to duty,” said Mehta.

Another soldier is reported to have been injured in Pakistan army’s indiscriminate firing in the same sector.

Meanwhile, sources said that an encounter is on Shopian between the security forces and terrorists.

Sources said that the security forces have been cordoned of the area where two to three terrorists were hiding. “As the security forces approached, the hiding terrorists fired at them triggering a fierce encounter which as per reports last came in is on,” said sources.
