Police foils terrorist escape bid in J&K’s Tral, Hizbul terrorist killed

Srinagar: One terrorist was killed and a policeman injured on Monday in south Kashmir’s Tral town when terrorists hurled a grenade at a police station to help a Hizbul terrorist escape from police custody.

A police constable sustained minor injuries in the blast

State Director General of Police (DGP) SP Vaid said: “A terrorist, Mushtaq Ahmad Chopan, died in the grenade explosion when challenged by a sentry while trying to escape from Tral police station.”

A police constable sustained minor injuries in the blast.

Chopan belonged to the Hizbul Mujahideen terror outfit and had been in police custody.

On the other hand, a civilian was injured in clashes with the security forces during protests following a brief gunfight in Jammu and Kashmir’s Bandipora district on Monday.

A police officer said that one Riyaz Ahmad was injured in the clashes that broke out in Hajan area where a brief exchange of gunfire took place between the terrorists and the security forces earlier during the day.

Taking advantage of the clashes the terrorists hiding in the area managed to escape, said the police official.

Meanwhile, Border Security Force (BSF) troopers on Monday foiled an infiltration bid by terrorists at the international border (IB) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Samba district.

“Alert BSF troops noticed suspicious movement near one of the border outposts in Samba around 5 am,” a police officer said.

“The troops fired and used illumination flares after which the group of terrorists trying to infiltrate into the Indian side of the IB were forced to withdraw,” said the police official.
