Security forces enagaged in fierce encounter with terrorists in J&K’s Baramulla

Srinagar: A fierce gunfight has started between terrorists and the security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Friday.

Till reports lst came in, there has not been any casualties on either side

According to a senior police official, on the basis of specific input about the presence of a group of terrorists in Palhalan area, the security forces swung into action and cordoned off the area of Baramulla’s Pattan.

The police official said that as the cordon was tightened, the hiding terrorists fired at the security personnel triggering the encounter, which is still on.

Till reports lst came in, there has not been any casualties on either side.

In order to curb spread of rumours, the authorities have suspended the mobile and internet services in the area with massive search and combing operation launched to nab or neutralise the terrorists.

Meanwhile, the security forces have started search operations in parts of Samba district of the state after some people reported suspicious movements in the area.

Police said people living in Katli area reported these movements early on Friday, following which a joint search operation by the police and the army was launched.

Schools in the adjoining areas where searches were underway have been shut down for the day as a precautionary measure.
