Six civilians killed in Pakistan shelling in J&K, heavy firing on
Jammu: In as many as six ceasefire violation along the international border in Jammu and Kashmir during the last 24 hours, at least six civilians were killed and ii others injured in RS Pura, Rambagh and Heranagar sectors.
According to a senior police official, a woman and a youth were killed and seven others injured on Friday in heavy shelling and firing by the Pakistan Rangers on the international border (IB) in RS Pura sector of Jammu region.
He said that similar ceasefire violations were witness in Rambagh and Hiranagar areas as well where two civilians were killed in Rambagh and two casualties were reported from Hiranagar besides injuries to four others.
He said that the Pakistan Rangers besides targeting civilian areas, also targeted military facilities in the area. “Heavy shelling and firing is on in the Arnia sub-sector and here our forces are responding in equal measures,” said the police official.
Similarly Heavy firing exchanges were also on in Hira Nagar area of Kathua district. “Here the Pakistan Rangers have been resorting to shelling and firing since morning,” added the official.
The police official said that panic gripped residents of the villages situated close to the IB in Jammu, Samba and Kathua districts have been advised to stay indoors and not venture out till the situation eases.
As a precautionary measure, all schools in areas where firing exchanges were going on have been closed.
