Srinagar encounter over as two Pakistani LeT terrorists killed

Srinagar: The over night operation against two Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists holed up in a house after a failed terror bid on a CRPF camp came to an end with security forces successfully neutralising both without and further casualty.

He said that both of the slain terrorists were Pakistani nationals

After losing the life of an injured CRPF jawan in the operation, the security forces took their time and finally killed both of the hiding terrorists on Tuesday in a nearly 30-hour-long gunfight, said a senior police official.

The police official said, “while one was gunned down as he came out of the under construction building to get into another adjacent building, the other was trapped and killed inside the building that they took refuge in on Monday morning.”

He said that both of the slain terrorists were Pakistani nationals and were associated with LeT. “Their exact identity is being established,” added the police official adding that a search operation in the area was going on.

It may be recalled that the slain terrorists had taken shelter inside the Karan Nagar area building a day ago after an alert sentry at the observation post of the 23rd battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) spotted them and fired, averting a possible terror attack on the camp.

Carrying backpacks and AK-47 rifles the terrorists were forced to withdraw and later trapped inside the building from where they had been engaged in the gun battle with the security forces.

A CRPF trooper was martyred during the operation on Monday while a constable of the Special Operations Group (SOG) of the Jammu and Kashmir Police was also injured in the exchange of fire between the terrorists and the security forces.
