Three terrorists killed in Tral area of J&K Pulwama, encounter continues

Srinagar: In a fierce encounter with the security forces, three terrorists were killed in Tral area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Saturday.

The exact picture would only emerge once the encounter ends

According to a senior police official, Security forces launched a search operation in the Satoora area of Tral after receiving intelligence inputs about the presence of some terrorists in the area.

“As the security forces continued with their search operation, they were suddenly greeted with a volley of gunfire by the terrorists hiding in the forested tract and this triggered a fierce encounter,” said the police official.

He said that in the ongoing encounter, three terrorists have already been gunned down with their dead bodies visible to the security forces comprising the Army, the CRPF and the SOG of the state police.

“At least two to three terrorists who are hiding in a cave are still being engaged in the ongoing encounter with the security forces that is expected to come to an end in an hour or so,” said the police official.

As per unconfirmed reports, the slain terrorists are believed to be associated with the Zakir Musa group that has reportedly broken away from the Hizbul Mujahideen. It is also being claimed that the neutralised terrorists were members of Pakistan based terror group Jaish-e-Mohammad.

However, the exact picture would only emerge once the encounter ends and the identification of the slain terrorists is carried out, said the police official.

Meanwhile, state DG, Police SP Vaid said that “the dead terrorists look like foreigners, probably belonging to Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM) outfit.”

Besides, Army, CRPF and SOG of the state police, Para Commandos and helicopters were also part of the operation, said an official.
