Two top LeT terrorist gunned down in J&K’s Pulwama, encounter end
Srinagar: Two top Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists was killed on Thursday morning in an ongoing encounter with the security forces in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
According to a senior police official, the gunfight erupted between a group of terrorists whose number is estimated to be between three and four in Padgampora village of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
He said that on receiving specific information about the presence of some terrorists in a House, the security forces comprising the Army, the CRPF and the state police, cordoned off Padgampora village. “As soon as the security forces cordoned off the area, the hiding terrorists started firing and this triggered an encounter,” said the police official.
The terrorists neutralised in the ongoing encounter has been identified as Jehangir Ganai and Sher Gurji. Both are top LeT terrorist and a close associate of Junaid Matto, the LeT commander in South Kashmir.
The security forces initially succeeded in killing Ganai and there after, another terrorists who was with the slain terrorist was also neutralised. He was identified as Sher Gurji. He too was a local and was an associate of Junaid Matto, the LET commander.
Prior to neutralising Gurji, the security forces made his wife communicate with him for surrendering but he continues to fire at the security forces.
The police official said that both of the killed terrorists were locals and belong to Koel area of South Kashmir.
This is the second major encounter in the area in last four days.
Though the encounter has ended, search and combing operation by the security forces is on in the area, added the police official.
It may be recalled that last week, top Hizbul Mujahideen militant Aqib Maulvi was killed along with a Pakistan based Jaish-e-Mohammed militant Osama in Tral area of Pulwama district.
Following the gunfight, the Bannihal-Baramulla train service was stopped as the railway track moves close to Padgampora village.
