Two terrorists killed, policeman martyred in Kashmir’s Pulwama
Srinagar: In a fierce over night encounter that ended on Sunday morning, two top Hizbul terrorists were gunned down by the security forces. A policeman was also martyred in the operation.
A high-ranking terrorists named Aqib, an associate of slain Hizbul terrorists Burhan Wani along with Usama, a Pakistani member of Jaish-e-Mohammed were killed.
According to a senior police official, the encounter lasted for over 15 hours in Tral area of Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
He said that besides killing of a policeman, six other security personnel including an army major were injured.
The police official said that the house in which the terrorists were hiding, was used by the slain terrorists as a fortified bunker. It was demolished by the forces using improvised explosive devices (IEDs), added the police official.
The encounter started on Saturday evening when security forces on receiving specific tip off about the presence of some terrorists, surrounded the entire area.
The security forces had to face some resistance from the locals before the operation started and it was even said that curfew was clamped in the area for smooth counter-terrorism operation.
However, Syed Javid Mujtaba Gillani, Kashmir Inspector General of Police (IGP) refuted rumours that curfew had been imposed in Tral.
The security forces, including troops of 42 Rashtriya Rifles, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Special Operations Group (SOG), closed in on the hiding terrorists when they opened indiscriminate fire martyring a police constable, said the police official.
He said that though the encounter has ended, search and combing operations were still on in the area.
