As the name suggest, pugs always follows the footprints of its master. They hate to be left alone and prefer to stay close to the members of the family. They are affectionate, intelligent and well natured dogs. Though at the puppy stage they are boisterous, turning calm when adult.

Considered to have originated from China, pugs are one of the most ancient breeds of dog. Dutch East India Company brought it to Europe in the 16th century and was later developed in England in the 17th century. Many people may not be knowing that Nepolean’s wife Josephine de Beauharnais had kept pug as a pet in the 18th century. The breed gained popularity worldwide due to the efforts of Duke of Windsor.

In France, this breed is called Carlin after the name of Italian actor Carlo Bertinazzi who used to wear a black mask. It is needless to mention that the mask of flat nosed pug is black and they are found in three colour – silver, apricot and black.

It is worth mentioning here that since the nose of this breed is flat, they are susceptible to heat and prefer a cool environment.
