Top Hizbul terrorist, associate killed in J&K’s Pulwama encounter

Srinagar: Hours of fierce gunfight between security forces and terrorists in Pulwama on Monday ended with the killing of a top Hizbul terrorist, Sameer Tiger and his associate Aquib.

Three soldiers including a Major were also injured and shifted to Army base hospital for treatment

According to a senior police official, on receiving tip off about the presence of some terrorists in the Drabgam village, the security forces comprising the Rashtriya Rifles, the CRPF and the SOG of the state police laid a cordon. “As the security forces closed in, the hiding terrorirts resorted to indiscriminate firing, trigerring a fierce encounter that lasted for a few hours.”

The Police official said that the neutralised terrorist Sameer Tiger was on the list of most wanted terrorists active in south Kashmir.

In the said encounter, three soldiers including a Major were also injured and shifted to Army base hospital for treatment.

He said that though the firing has stopped, security operations in the area were still going on.

On the other hamd, a teenager was killed during clashes between stone pelting mob and the security forces in Drabgam village. Fifteen other civilians were injured in the clashes, said the official.

As a precautionary measure, mobile Internet facility has been suspended in south Kashmir, added the police official.
