Wild elephants trample 60-year-old man in Jharkhand

Ranchi: A 60-year-old man was trampled to death by wild elephants in Jharkhand’s Giridih district on Monday.

The rampaging elephants had killed Gopi Singh, 70, in Jaspur village

According to a state forest department official, a villager, Dhaneshwar Rai was sleeping when a herd of around 18 elephants entered Sabuatand village on Sunday night and attacked the villagers. Rai could not escape and was trampled to death by the elephants, said the official.

Earlier on Saturday night, the rampaging elephants had killed Gopi Singh, 70, in Jaspur village in the same district.

As per official figures, more than 800 people have been killed by elephants in Jharkhand since the state was carved out of Bihar in 2000.
