Three terrorists killed, soldier martyred in Kashmir Valley

Srinagar: Security forces on Thursday killed three terrorists in separate encounters in Kashmir valley. In one of the three encounters a soldier was also martyred and a civilian killed in the valley.

A senior police official said that a local commander of Pakistan-based terror outfit, Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), Asif Malik alias Abu Ukasha was killed in an encounter in Gasigund village in Dooru area of Anantnag district.

The encounter broke out early in the morning when the area where the terrorists were hiding was cordoned off by the security forces.

“In this encounter, another terrorists Naveed Jatt alias Abu Hanzla, a Pakistan national was also believed to be hiding but he managed to escape but not before he too was hit by a bullets,” said the police official adding that a search was on to nab or neutralise injured terrorist Naveed Jatt.

In another encounter in Panzan village of Badgam district, security forces killed two terrorist but their identity is still to be ascertained, said the police official.

As the encounter in Panzan broke out, the terrorists hiding in a house managed to sneak into a nearby mosque.

The police official said that security forces exercised caution to ensure that the mosque did not get damaged.

The crackdown triggered clashes between civilian protesters and security personnel in Noorbagh locality of Qamarwari area in Srinagar in which a civilian suffered bullet injuries and later died.

Internet has been snapped in Anantnag, Srinagar and Budgam districts, where the encounters broke out.

In Srinagar, a gunfight broke out at Noorbagh after security forces launched an operation following intelligence inputs that some terrorists could be hiding at a house in the area. The son of house-owner was killed during the operation.

The police said the terrorists have escaped from the house after the brief shootout.
