Two of the three terrorists involved in J&K highway attack killed, gunfight on

Jammu: Security forces on Thursday killed two of the three Pakistani terrorists who had fired at two persons on the Jammu-Srinagar highway in Udhampur district on Wednesday morning before escaping into the adjoining forests.

A senior police official said that in the ongoing encounter one of the remaining terrorists hiding in a house in Kakriyal area of Reasi district in a fierce encounter.

In this encounter, eight security personnel were also injured. All of them have been shifted to a hospital, said the police official.

He said that the security forces comprising the Army, police and the CRPF tracked down the Pakistani terrorists using drones, helicopters and other surveillance gadgets over the bushy forests of Jhajar and adjoining areas where they had disappeared on Wednesday.

It may be recalled that three Pakistani terrorists on board a truck had attacked a checkpost in Jhajar Kotli area of Udhampur injuring a CRPF trooper and a forest guard on Wednesday.

The three terrorists there after abandoned the vehicle and vanished into the bushes and since that an intensive search operation was launched to nab or neutralise the terrorists.

“On Thursday morning, the security forces succeeded in tracking them down to a house in Kakriyal area near Mata Vaishno Devi University,” said the official.

Once the terrorists were located, the villagers were promptly evacuated from the area and a final assault on the terrorists was mounted, said the police official.

Earlier, a villager told the security forces that around 10 pm on Wednesday the three armed terrorists carrying haversacks entered his home, changed their clothes, took biscuits and water and left.

Traffic on the national highway between Nagrota-Jhajar Kotli was suspended on Thursday. Schools in the area were also closed for the day.

Till reports last came in, the encounter with the third terrorists was on in the area.
