Two JeM terrorists killed in J&K’s Shopian encounter, searches underway

Srinagar: As the crackdown on terrorists operating in Kashmir valley continues, two terrorists were killed following an encounter with the security forces in Kashmir’s Shopian district on Saturday.

Search and cordon operations are currently underway as more terrorists are likely to be trapped

According to a senior police official, on receiving a tip off about presence of some terrorists in Gahand Harmain village in south Kashmir’s Shopian district, the security forces launched a cordon and search operation.

“As the security cordon tightened in the orchard area of Gahand Harmain village, the hiding terrorists started indiscriminate firing to break the cordon and escape,” said the police official adding that in the subsequent exchange of fire, two of the hiding terrorists were killed.

The police official said that though the identity of the slain terrorists is being established, they both were having affiliation with Pakistan-based terrorist outfit Jais-e-Mohammad.

Large quantity of arms and ammunition was recovered from the encounter site, said the police official.

Search and cordon operations are currently underway as more terrorists are likely to be trapped in the area, said sources.
