Top Pakistani JeM commander among three terrorist killed in J&K’s Pulwama

Srinagar: In a major success, the security forces on Thursday killed three Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM) terrorists, including a top commander who masterminded the 2017 attack on a CRPF camp. In this fierce encounter, a soldier was laos martyred in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

Large quantity of arms and ammunition were also recovered from the encounter site

A senior police official said that the encounter took place at Dalipora area of Pulwama at around 4 am.

“The slain terrorists have been identified as Naseer Pandit and Umar Mir (both locals) and a Pakistani Khalid Bhai. Khalid was a top JeM commander and he had masterminded the 2017 attack on the CRPF camp in Lethpora in which five troopers were killed. He was carrying a reward of Rs 8 lakh on his head,” said the police official.

He said that Khalid was active since the last eight years in Kashmir and his killing was being viewed as a major success.

A civilian was also killed in the encounter and he was identified as Rayees Ahmad Dar, son of the owner of a house where the terrorists were hiding. While Dar’s brother Muhammad Younis, sustained a gunshot injury during the encounter, said the police official.

Large quantity of arms and ammunition were also recovered from the encounter site.

The authorities have imposed curfew in Pulwama amid clashes and suspended mobile Internet services.

According to the sources, besides martyrdom of a soldier, two security personnel were also injured during the operation.

The police official said that the encounter started in Dalipora village early Thursday morning after security forces including Rashtriya Rifles (RR), Central Reserve Police Force (CR PF) and the Special Operations Group (SOG) of the state police, started a cordon and search operation following a tip-off about the presence of some terrorists in the area.

Mobile internet speed has also been brought down in Srinagar city as a precautionary measure.
