5 CRPF jawans martyred in J&K’s Anantnag terror attack, 2 terrorist shot dead

Srinagar: Terrorists killed five Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel at KP road in south Kashmir’s Anantnag on Wednesday evening. Seven others, including one civilian and six security personnel, were injured following a gunfight with terrorists.

According to a police official, two masked terrorists came out of a car in KP Road in Anantnag town and opened fire on a security party, killing three CRPF personnel on the spot and injuring at least seven other including five CRPF personnel, a police official and a woman.

He said that the security forces reacted swiftly and engaged the terrorists in a gunfight that ended with the killing of both the terrorists responsible for the attack.

“Seven others, including one civilian woman, one local station house officer (SHO) and five CRPF personnel, were injured in the gunfight,” said the police official adding that two of the critically injured CRPF personnel succumbed to their injuries in the hospital.

Pakistan-based terrorist outfit Al-Umar Mujahideen, considered to be a front of the Pakistan-based terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba, has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Though both the terrorists responsible for the attack on the CRPF personnel have bee killed, the security forces have cordoned off the entire area with intensive search operations on till reports last came in.
