Tiger carcass found in UP’s Lakhimpur Kheri canal

Lakhimpur Kheri: Carcass of an adult tigress was found floating in a canal in Uttar Pradesh’s Lakhimpur Kheri district.

The age of the tigress was around five years

According to reports, local people on Wednesday spotted the carcass in the canal in Gola area and alerted forest officials who rushed to the spot and sent it for post-mortem.

A senior forest official said that the age of the tigress was around five years and there are no injury marks and also all its nails were intact. “keeping these facts in mind, it appears that the tiger was not poisoned,” said the official adding that the post-mortem report was awaited to ascertain the exact cause of tiger’s death.

It may be mentioned here that the canal in which the carcass was found, passes through Pilibhit and Mailani areas of Lakhimpur Kheri.

However, it may be noted that this was the second case of a big cat death reported from the South Kheri forest division in the current year and the fifth in the Terai region of the state.

On March 28, an adult male tiger was trapped in a snare and killed in Maheshpur range, clearly indicating the role of poachers in the same.
