Top LeT terrorists Asif Bhat Killed in J&K’s Sopore encounter

New Delhi: Security forces on Wednesday killed a top Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist in an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir’s Sopore district.

J&K director General Police, Dilbag Singh told mediaperons that the neutralised terrorist has been identified as Asif Maqbool Bhat, a top LeT terrorist active in the Kashmir valley. “We are on the lookout for his two close associates and hope to nab or neutralise them soon,” said the DGP.

The police official said that the neutralised terrorist was responsible for attacking a Sopore fruit trader’s family last week in which a three-year-old girl had also been injured. Besides that the slan terrorists had been involved in printing pamphlets and getting the same pasted at various locations, threatening locals from carrying out their routine work including opening of shops or selling their produce in the market.

Let terrorist Asif Maqbool Bhat was also responsible for shooting at migrant labourer Shafi Alam in Sopore, said the police official.

It may be recalled that the three-year-old girl, Asma, whose father is a fruit trader, had been injured when terrorists opened fire at her house in Dangerpora area of Sopore last week. The terrorists had also attacked a migrant labourer from Bihar, Shafi Alam, who had sustained gunshot wounds on his shoulder and neck.

SSP of Sopore district, Javaid Iqbal said that LeT terrorists led by Baht had hatched a conspiracy to print posters threatening locals from venturing out of their homes, either for trade, travel, schools or offices.

Riding on mobikes, a group of terrorists led by Asif Bhat used to also distribute these posters locals for circulation in villages.
