Tiger found dead in Goa’s Mhadei Wildlife Sanctuary

Panaji: Forest officials are investigating the death of a wild tiger in Goa’s Mhadei Wildlife Sanctuary after its carcass was found in a village on Sunday.

The Golvali village is located in the lower reaches of the Western Ghats

According to the state Chief Wildlife Warden Santosh Kumar, the carcass was found by residents of Golvali village in Sattari sub division of North Goa district.

He, however said that the cause of death of the tiger would only be known once the post-mortem is carried out.

The official further said that since the carcass did not had any external injury mark, the exact cause of death would only be revealed once the post mortem is conducted.

Besides that a team of senior forest officials have already visited the area where the carcass was recovered to carry out an on the spot inquiry.

The Golvali village is located in the lower reaches of the Western Ghats.

The Mhadei Wildlife Sanctuary is a part of a tiger corridor, which spreads across the forests in Goa, Karnataka and Maharashtra. As per the last census, the presence of five tigers was recorded in Goa.
