Allahabad HC directs UP officials to send kids to government schools

Allhabad: Taking serious note of prevailing pathetic conditions in primary schools in Uttar Pradesh, the Allahabad High Court in a significant move on Tuesday directed the chief secretary of Uttar Pradesh government to ensure that children of government officials, people’s representatives and judicial officials were sent to government schools.

Only then would they be serious enough to look into the requirements of these schools

“Only then would they be serious enough to look into the requirements of these schools and ensure that they are run in good condition,” the court observed.

Hearing a petition filed by Umesh Kumar Singh, which were bundled by the high court with many other similar petitions, Justice Sudhir Agarwal directed chief secretary Alok Ranjan to initiate concrete steps to enable the compliance of the court’s directives by the beginning of the new academic session.

Describing the condition of majority of primary schools in the state as shabby, the court also directed the top bureaucrat to submit a compliance report within the next six months.

The issue involved in the writ petitions was with regard to appointment of assistant teachers in state’s primary schools.

The court further observed that as officials responsible for running these primary schools are treating them in a shabby manner, these schools have given rise to multiple litigations.
