IAF MiG-21 Bison fighter crashes in central Kashmir’s Badgam area

Srinagar: An Indian Air Force fighter aircraft MiG-21 crashed in Badgam district of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday morning.

According to a defence spokesman, a MiG-21 Bison fighter aircraft crashed at 10.59 am in Soibug area of Badgam district in Central Kashmir.

He said that the pilot of the fighter aircraft bailed out safely and was subsequently rescued by an army helicopter, a short distance away from the crash site.

The defence spokesman said that while ejecting from the aircraft, the fighter pilot sustained neck injury and was immediately rushed to an army hospital after being rescued by an army chopper.

The aircraft crashed minutes after take off from the IAF airfield in Srinagar.

A loud explosion was heard by the villagers residing in close proximity of the crashed fighter.

No loss of life and property has been reported.

The Air Force has ordered a court of inquiry to ascertain the cause of fighter aircraft crash.
